About Us
Smarty Plants Nursery is a small-scale perennial plant nursery based just outside Naas, Co. Kildare.
We are a closed nursery, so unfortunately we cannot currently welcome customers directly on-site, but we aim to maintain a strong online presence and give fast and informative responses to any questions you may have via Email, WhatsApp, and comments/direct messages on our Social Media platforms. We also will have a physical presence at markets and plant fairs throughout the year. We are currently holding a weekly stall at the Naas Farmers Market (A.K.A. Naas Potato Market) in Naas, Co. Kildare, every Saturday from 10am-3pm. Any changes to this will be updated well in advance across our website and social media, so please feel free to check in with us beforehand if you plan to make a visit!
Our stock is made up of about 50% being our own production through divisions and cuttings, and 50% sourced from other nurseries based here in Ireland and in the Netherlands. This is to ensure we hold a wide selection of perennial plant varieties throughout the year, while also being able to stock some new and unusual varieties that aren't currently easily accessible for our own propagation.
Our plants are primarily held and supplied in 9cm pots - this allows us to keep prices down for our customers while also being able to produce stock quickly and efficiently. Although the pots might be smaller than what is usually seen, this does not mean your plants will not grow to their full potential. Even in the first year, your plants will quickly double or triple in size once planted into the ground or into a bigger pot size.
The nursery is owned and run by myself, Holly Clarke. I have spent the vast majority of my life working in horticulture and have a strong passion for plants. The never-ending selection of colour, texture and variety in perennial plants, as well as the funky flowers and catchy names, is what has me going down this path of starting up my own nursery and showing you all what there is to offer in the world of perennials. The idea of gardening and looking after plants can be daunting for many, so I hope to be able to share my experiences, answer your questions and help you pick the right plants that will suit your garden space.
Always accompanied on-site by my two cats Tom (Head of Security) and Jerry (Keeper of the Plants), while also having endless love and support from family, friends and of course our dear customers, we hope you all enjoy the Smarty Plants journey! ❤️
