Dryopteris atrata

A tall, strong, semi-evergreen fern also known as Shaggy Shield Fern, which thrives in damp, shaded woodland habitats.

- Long, arching fronds emerge in spring, forming a relatively large clump of lush green foliage that are covered in contrasting dark hairs. 

- It looks its best if planted in a damp, shaded area, protected from direct sun and drought to avoid scorching. It is a great plant for foliage interest in mixed borders and raised beds if sheltered between other plants, in jungle-themed planting, and when planted under tree canopies or in shaded areas of the garden. It can also be grown very successfully in pots, or on sloped shaded banks. 

- May retain some foliage in the winter months if it is kept well sheltered. However, it will greatly benefit from a cut back in spring to allow for the fresh new foliage to emerge. 

- Height and Spread approx. 60-90cm x 60-90cm.
