Hakonechloa macra 'Beni-Kaze'

This deciduous Japanese Forest Grass is a vibrant, attractive, compact carpeting grass for shaded areas or for growing in pots.

- Its short, wide, arching foliage emerges a light lime green colour, darkening to green over the summer, then taking on hues of red and purple in the autumn. By the end of the autumn almost the whole plant has this red-purple colouring. 

- From late summer, spikes of slender, upright pale green flowers are produced, which then develop into yellow-green seed heads which persist into the winter. However, the real beauty of this grass is with the foliage rather than the flowers. 

- Thrives in semi-shade or shaded areas, and grows well in moist or damp soils. It is a great plant for a pot too, but does not like to dry out too much, so care will need to be taken to keep it looking lush and healthy. 

- Spreads via rhizomes, however its growth is very slow, and so it is easily controlled and will not compete with surrounding plants. 

- Height and Spread approx. 30-40cm x 30-50cm.
