One of the more popular choices of English Lavender due to its compact shape, this evergreen shrubby perennial is much loved for its long lasting flowers and very distinctive, calming scent.
- From late June, compact spikes of tiny purple flowers are produced on upright stems which rise above the foliage beneath it.
- Small silver-green leaves are narrow and pointed, and are highly aromatic. The foliage forms a dense, compact mound that is evergreen, and so provides year-round interest.
- A staple plant for cottage gardens, rockeries, and mixed borders, commonly used for edging paths as a compact hedge, while also earning a well deserved place in coastal, Mediterranean and sensory gardens. It can also be grown in a pot, of course! Full sun and very well draining soil are key for its success, as well as appropriate annual pruning. Works well for fresh cut or dried flower arrangements.
- Highly attractive to bee, butterflies, and many other pollinator species.
- The first flush of flowers may become spent by mid to late July, when they can be pruned back to the foliage, which will be soon followed by a second flush that will last into the autumn.
- Like all Lavender, it is important to prune the plant at the end of its flowering time to prevent the plant becoming sparse and woody. In October, when flowering has more or less finished, cut all flowering stems back and lightly trim the foliage, giving the mound a nice rounded shape.
- The main rule with Lavender is not to cut back into woody stems. Always ensure there is healthy foliage beneath where you are pruning. If a light prune is done on a yearly basis, this should be enough to maintain a healthy plant without it going sparse or woody.
- Height and Spread approx. 45-60cm x 45-60cm.
- Supplied in a 9cm pot
