Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln'

Also known as Chinese Fountain Grass, this compact deciduous grass provides interest for every season. This variety 'Hameln' tends to be a hardier variety than some of the other Pennisetum types.

- Long, narrow, arching linear foliage forms a lush green mound from spring through summer. In autumn it turns a lovely straw-like golden yellow, before going brown in the winter months.

- Feathery, bottle-brush plumes of light pink to creamy white flower heads are produced in late summer, and are very soft to touch. The flowers gradually turn yellow-brown in colour as the seed heads form for winter.

- The autumn months are when this plant looks its best, and is a stunning addition when mixed with various summer and autumn flowering perennials. Ideal for any border, raised bed or pot in full sun or dappled shade. It is reasonably drought-tolerant once established, and is great for coastal gardens. Perfect for cottage gardens, prairie-style planting, mixed borders, etc, while also making long-lasting cut flowers too.

- It is best to admire this grass as it changes through every season. Leave yellowing foliage and browning seed heads for winter and spring interest. It can be cut back to 2-3 inches in spring and allow the fresh green growth to start again.
