Commonly known as Blue Star Creeper, Pratia is a very hardy, vigorously spreading evergreen perennial that forms a dense mat-like ground cover in a wide range of garden habitats.
- From May until August/September masses of delicate star-shaped blue flowers are produced, which form an attractive carpet of colour that will brighten up any area.
- Tiny, rounded green leaves form a very dense mat of evergreen foliage that grows tight to the ground. The densely-packed leaves acts as an effective weed suppressant.
- Suitable for most soil types and aspects, but prefers dappled to full shaded areas. It can also grow well in full sun and is reasonably drought-tolerant once established. An ideal plant for growing in wall crevices or cracks in pavements, and can also be grown in a pot so its spread can be easily contained.
- Its fast and vigorous spread, combined with its tolerance for moderate levels of trampling means it could be considered as a potential alternative to lawn for areas that are difficult to mow, or for rocky/shaded slopes.
- It will grow well under the cover of trees and shrubs, or as a low edging plant in mixed borders, but just bare in mind that it does keep spreading. It can be contained by using edging to stop the spread, or just regularly divide and remove the plant from areas where it is not wanted.
- Height and Spread approx. 10cm x 50cm+.
- Supplied in a 9cm pot
