Commonly known as Lungwort, Pulmonaria officinalis is a very compact, low-maintenance ground cover perennial with an abundance of spring flowers.
- This exact variety is unknown as its been growing in the garden for many years, so we will just call it Pulmonaria officinalis 'By The Glasshouse', which is where I have dug it up from! Not to be confused with our other homegrown Pulmonaria officinalis (take 2) 'From Roundabout', which is growing mere meters away 😂
- From March until June, an abundance of flowers are produced in clusters, which start off pink when they first open, darkening to blue as the mature. This gives a stunning two-tone effect as the flowers appear in their different stages throughout its flowering period.
- The dark green leaves are flecked with silver spots and splashes, adding extra interest as a ground cover throughout summer and autumn, after it has flowered. As it is semi-evergreen, it usually retains some foliage for the winter too.
- Best suited to semi-shade and deep shade, while also tolerating some full sun positions providing it does not dry out too much. A stunning addition to the front of borders or planting between trees and shrubs, wildlife gardens and for shaded rockery areas. Said to be deer and rabbit resistant.
- Its long flowering time and spring flowers are a very important food source for early season pollinators such as Bumblebees, Solitary Bees and Hoverflies.
- Height and Spread approx. 20-30cm x 40-60cm.
- Supplied in a 9cm pot
